Today's Route
Bunnell, FL to Birmingham, AL

Highlights of the day

Well IT begins! It looks like it is going to be another "Mis-Adventures of Aleta" trip. I awoke to find that there is no telephone at the lodge. No Phone = No Internet (as I have dialup for the laptop). So for the next 4 days, I am going to be trying to figure out what I'm going to do about that. First day I might swipe Tuck-n-Roll's laptop while he is having one of his "Bourbon Moments". He won't know.

We didn't get up early like I thought we might. So it is now 7:43 and we are just about ready to leave. Looks like it's going to be a wet one. Tuck-n-Roll said this morning that the Geezer bike is loaded to the gills and he has one objective... Be in the pool at 3:30 in Birmingham, AL.

475 miles to go. I just know Tricky is going to be a pain in my ass.

About 75 miles down the road it stated to rain. So we pulled over in a Ranger's station to put on the rain gear. 10 Minutes later, ALL CLEAR! Ricky figured he would pull a prank on Allen and call saying we were stranded and to come get us. Allen answered the phone and said "Sure where are ya?" What a pal! Since we seemed to be a bit behind from taking the back roads, we decided to jump on I-75 and catch up some miles. Rain Again! So we pulled over under an overpass and proceeded to put on the rain gear again. This time, the elastic in Ricky's waistband had broken. It's 20 year old and a wonder it made it this far. Out comes the duct tape. He proceeds to duct tape his rain pants on which is kinda looking like Jared from the Subway commercials. Then he gets out a bungee cord and wraps that around himself TWICE! After we got going he didn't blow up like a yellow balloon like he had before. That was reserved for me. My arms puffed up so much I couldn't see past them in the mirrors. I looked like a dirty Michelin Man.

Allen, Dennis, and Phil left Atlanta at around noon time. They said they had a pretty uneventful 140 miles to get to Birmingham. Us on the other hand rolled in right around 7pm. They all happened to be in the lobby of the hotel when we arrived. While we were chit chatting the guys decided that the Neon Grape needed a new front tire. Gee, I had just had the bike checked over before we left town and it was good to go, 500 miles later I need a new tire???? Now I know why it was beating me up just getting this far. It felt like riding a jackhammer. We found a dealer about 45 miles up the road, hopefully I can make it without it blowing out. We all went up to the rooms and caught up on the trip and just had a great time. It was decided that Ricky won the naming of the bike contest and Allen presented him with a McDonalds Steak Dinner. The official name of the geezer bike is Shirley. And Shirley, this bike will cost him more money. How accurate that name would be was something no one would even guess.
