Get your Kicks... On Route 66

Join a fun band of characters on a
scenic trip on Route 66 in 2013.

We had originally planned a return trip to Sturgis in 2013 but have since decided to postpone that in lieu of other destinations.

This page takes a long time to load as it contains much information. Please be patient.

About Us
We are a small, growing group of riders that have joined together to share motorcycle trips across the USA. Sharing camraderie, fun and friendship, you just never know what can happen on a trip like this, but one thing is for certain, it will certainly be an adventure to remember.

Bikes
Any brands of bikes are welcome, as long as they can run posted speed limits and are safe for Interstate travel. Singles, couples, just does not make a difference. The intention is to have a fun, safe ride to where ever our destination may take us.

The Trip
Our trip begins for some in the Nation's First and oldest city, Saint Augustine, Florida, and will travel by primary, secondary, and Interstate highways to Chicago, IL. Obviously not everyone will start from St Augustine, and given the route, you can join up from any location along the way. Route 66 is approximately 2450 miles long, loaded with historic and gawdy landmarks, some of which are still in operation today. We will try to visit as many of these as possible. The route home will take in scenic American landscapes via Interstate highways through the southern states back to the East Coast.

Accommodations
We will secure accommodations along the route for the size group that we have. The preference would be to stop in landmark stops rather than chain motels for the Route 66 "experience".

Dates and Route Information

The plan is to start this trip sometime in mid to late August and wrap it up by the middle of September. We will spend about 10 days on Route 66 and 8 days getting to and from the route. This will vary based on the participants of the group and their starting locations. Unless you ship and fly the average day getting to and from the route will be 350 - 500 miles long. The average day on Route 66 will be about 250 miles with stops at landmark establishments along the way. Some stops are only what is left of the remaining building and just a photo opportunity and others will take a bit longer. Depending on the group, we can stop more or less. Currently the route plan is as follows:

The Ride Home
~ 2500 miles in 5 days
Since we've just spent 10 days on the road sightseeing, it will be time to make a beeline for home. Our route home will be a direct Interstate ride with a 500 mile day itinerary. We will stop every 100 miles for gas and water. Stops will be held to as short as possible.
There is discussion from some to possibly ship their bikes and fly home from Santa Monica. There is also a mention of shipping and flying to Chicago to start the trip.
Day 14 - 18
about 2500 miles

Santa Monica, CA - GA & FL
Our average day planned is aproximately 250 miles per day. We normally stop every 100 miles for gas and breaks. This makes for a fairly easy ride at any age. We depart between 6 - 8 am and arrive around 5pm.

Some of the stops we'll see are:

Meramec Caverns - Jesse James Hideout - Stanton, MO
Devil's Elbow - Devils Elbow, MO
March Arch Rainbow Bridge - Gelena, KS
Route 66 Harley Davidson - Tulsa, OK
Palo Duro Canyon - Canyon, TX
Cadillac Ranch - Amarillo, TX
Blue Swallow Motel & Tee Pee Curios & La Cita Mexican Hat - Tucumcari, NM
Wigwam Hotel - Holbrook, AZ
Oatman Hotel - Oatman, AZ
Amboy Crater & Roy's Cafe - Amboy, CA
Will Rogers Highway
Santa Monica Blvd

We're tossing around the idea of making a side trip into the Four Corners region and to visit Mesa Verde, Bryce Canyon, Arches National Park, London Bridge, and the Grand Canyon.

Meet members of the group.
Aleta a.k.a. "Murphy"
Palm Coast, FL
Aleta made the Sturgis trip in 2006 which was chronicalled by the Chrome Diva's as "The Mis-Adventures of Aleta". A hysterical cross country trip that was destined to become an annual event. Aleta rides a Kawasaki Meanstreak 1500. While on the 2006 trip, she made many friends who still keep in contact and meet in Sturgis for more great times. After making three trips to Sturgis, she's ready to see more of the US and Canada by bike. Not even home two weeks from Sturgis 2011 and the maps are out and two upcoming adventures are on the drawing board. It's exciting to get requests to join the ride from people "across the pond" in Europe and "down under" in Australia like we have. This could open up a whole new global adventure!!!
Richard a.k.a. "Tricky Ricky" or "TR"
Palm Coast, FL
One of the few photos taken without him flipping the camera a "Bird". Ricky prides himself on his 3 motorcycles and plans to trade his "Kawasaki Purple" 1988 Harley Classic for a new bagger for this trip. You always have to be on your toes around the Trickster as he has been known to deliver pranks thousands of miles from home! If TR doesn't get a new bike, he may trailer his chopper. Guess we will have a chase vehicle or as in the 2011 trip, a "tow truck".
Allen a.k.a "Mr. Pinkster"
Atlanta, GA
Allen got his name in 2007 at Bike Week while showing us that he could perfect the Tuck and Roll in one continuous motion and without spilling a drop of his Bourbon. To which the act got some stares of disbelief and a "What was that?" We are retiring "Tuck-n-Roll" but it will live on in Pinkster Wall of Shame! Allen traded his Dyna for a Harley Ultra Classic just for the 2008 trip that became known as the "Shirley Valdiz" due to the oil slick that he wore daily. It ran fine for the 2011 trip but watching TR's bagger malfunction constantly on the trip has him worried. He is now looking for a newer Heritage.
Jim a.k.a. "JC"
Atlanta, GA
Jim works with Allen and Dennis in Atlanta. Jim says that he rides a BMW 1200 GS with lots of toys on it, he even mentioned A/C. He said he bought a windshield because he has eaten enough bugs and thought that he would save some for other riders who had maybe not eaten as many. Jim is already accustomed to making 400-500 mile a day rides, but the last day of the 2011 Sturgis trip, he decided 660 was a bit much.
Dennis a.k.a "McGyver"
Cartersville, GA
We have lots of pictures of Dennis hamming it up. Dennis rides a Harley Softail called "The Bullet" that he continually makes modifications to. We expect D to get a bagger eventually. Dennis earned the name "McGyver" as he is always finding unusual things to make repairs with ie toothpicks, sewing needles, ball point pen springs, vodka. Other than Bike Week, Renee made her first official "Pinkster trip" in 2011 to Sturgis and she may make this trip as well.
Larry
Prattville, AL
Larry tells us he has traveled extensively on his bike and has been to Sturgis several times. In 2011 he was headed to Sturgis for a couple day stay in Deadwood, then on to the Pacific coast highway. He's early 60's and says if he can afford the time and money, he's doing it because "Life is short". Can't argue with him on that! He said, "You plan it, I'll ride along".
Milton
Milledgeville, GA
Milton found us the day before we were planning to leave for Sturgis in 2011 and we did not get the chance to meet up while there. But he said he is interested in this trip and to keep him posted with the details.
